Habberstad BMW started with a dream. Howard “Howie” Habberstad, a Norwegian immigrant with a passion for motorsports, began as a mechanic at 16 before serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, his entrepreneurial drive led him to open a Meyer’s Dune Buggy Distributorship in 1967, which paved the way for something greater—in 1971, he founded Habberstad BMW of Huntington.
In 1995, his son Erik Habberstad took the reins, expanding the dealership into one of Long Island’s largest BMW centers. Under his leadership, sales doubled, customer satisfaction soared, and the business grew to include a MINI franchise and a Bay Shore location.
Today, Erik carries on his father’s mission, ensuring every customer feels like part of the Habberstad family. As he says, “We are your BMW center.”
